Doudou... dis donc...
This series was created for the exhibition held at the Atelier du Genie Gallery In Paris which had for theme 'Le Doudou' (Teddy bear).
Each participating artist created an art piece in relation to the theme which they interpreted using their own form.
Cecile Desmeules Harrison created the tryptic, 'Drop I', 'Drop II', and 'Drop III' using oil painting on plexiglass. This particular technique and medium is giving an effect on transparency, and, especially when placed on the wall, or suspended in the window of the art gallery, allows the viewer to see the background and let the light through.
The artist, with this series, intended to put the emphasis on the fact that those 'Doudou' who once held a particular memory for their child owner, were found in the streets of Paris, lost or abandoned. These paintings evokes the lost memories associated with childhood and is a metaphor of the modern world as a consumerist society which disregard identity and uniqueness. The 'Doudou' is discarded and replaced by a new one, the attachment the child once had for it is lost as he becomes an adult. The title of these art pieces 'Drop' has redundant meaning, like "Drop it, forget it" as well as the literal action of dropping an object in the street. The emotional attachment and the memory objects like these teddy bears represent are at the centre of Cecile's art. Her work explores the impact images and objects can have on people's emotional memory and the way they can influence their perception of the world.

Doudou douceur, doudou douleur ! Le doudou possède aujourd'hui sa mode, son design, ses blogs, ses créateurs...ce qui nous a donné l'idée , en ces temps moroses, de donner carte blanche sur ce thème aux artistes de la galerie .
A chacun son doudou....Si certains affichent encore un peu de tendresse dans leurs créations, la plupart dépassent largement le rôle dévolu traditionnellement à l'objet . Ils ont saisi le thème du doudou à bras-le-corps pour s'amuser, se défouler, et créer des oeuvres étonnantes parfois violentes ou érotiques.
Mimi Rondelle , qui sculpte le papier, a gardé l'esprit des contes pour enfants. Sabine Planès crée des doudous souffrants et malmenés . Hélène Loussier évoque le doudou à travers des mains d'enfants et sculpte d'étranges animaux en céramique . Julien Billaudeau joue sur la démesure en dessinant de petits personnages avec d'immenses doudous. Le peintre Dominique Lecomte s'intéresse à la multitude en représentant avec tendresse et humour un immense tas d'ours en peluche. Clyde Knowland , plus brutal, emprisonne de véritables peluches dans du béton . Cécile Harrison s'intéresse à l'abandon en montrant comment cet objet , symbole du passage et de la transition, peut soudain perdre tout affect et retourner à l'état de simple objet, être abandonné, perdu, ou acquérir une nouvelle existence. Quant à Coco Téxèdre, elle revisite complètement le thème avec des oeuvres en volume évoquant la toison pubienne féminine. Une sorte de doudou pour adulte !
Mais pourquoi le doudou ne servirait-il pas de refuge aux plus grands? D'ailleurs certains objets que nous traînons partout , tel le portable, ne joueraient-ils pas un peu ce rôle ? Attention la doudoumania est là...
