This series called Metaphors is a collection of different places the artist visited during her travel and depicts experiences and impressions she recalls during those times of exploration. The use of symbols forms a vivid contrast with some of the sceneries and create bizarre associations which questions the viewer.

The famous Jeff Koons' dog balloons in the Vietnam's interrogation room in the headquarters is Ho Chi Minh; a dying plant placed on the chair in a Vietnam wire tap room; the back and white representation of a woman taking a shower in front of an open window, a curtain opening to a void bold black interior, the cropped image of a snow storm outside a deserted airport; a motor placed on a chair in an underground car park, all these paintings raise questions and invite the viewer to analyse his/ her own cultural code of representation. 

The artist's attempts to position herself within the contemporary world of multimedia with its constant stream of images becomes a defiant act as a painter and is particularly representative in this series where Cecile Desmeules Harrison offers the viewer an opportunity to observe and share her moment of contemplation.

"Have you ever observed a dying plant or fruits growing in a tree over several days and weeks? Watch the documentary 'The Quince tree sun', directed by Víctor Erice, where an artist, Antonio Lopez, tries to paint the quince tree he planted some time back in his garden as it grows." explained Cecile.

This film has fascinated and inspired Cecile Desmeules Harrison in her work and more than contemporary art, the cinema has formed the cultural imagery that is at the source of her art, The impact David Lynch's films and art is evident in the palette she uses and in the atmosphere she depicts. She is also inspired by the dutch painters of the XVII century and the every day scenes of Clair obscure of which she uses some of the glazing technique.
